I know Talks is available through Cingular and is used with the Nokia 6620. The phone is fully accessible with the software installed. I don't know if any other service or phone uses the software.

The 6620 is being phased out; try the 6680.

Hi all,
Talks can be obtained at a price of $300.00 form Beyond Sight
http://www.beyondsight.com
which is a company out of Colorado. That site will also lst the 11 or so phones which Talks will be compatible with, and the celluar services--SUncom and TMobile... It is like JFW for a cell, and very much worth the cost if one can afford it.
I am getting Talks soon myself. Note though, that you must have some Bluetooth software and all to install Talks but all of this will be explained in the documentations the way I understand it.
Hope this helps some.

Well I've heard all gret things about talks, although it is not yet perfect. Also, you may have heard cingular offers a great deal on talks where they give a full rebate on it if you sing a 2 year contract. well the deal is shit because they charge you like 300 bucks for the nokia 6620... which they are promoting free to everyone else. L A M E! Not to mention unjust!

i think talks is like any new piece of technology, it has a lot of bugs they need to work out. in the uk it is charged at £1.50. i think we blind people should not have to pay so much just because we need it. does anyone else feel like we are being penalised for being blind. HUGS AND TUGS

hmm, well, to be honest, i'm not to sure about the states but, i know in the uk that you can get the talks soft wear at any of your local vodafone shops. The staff there will be more than helpful to show you a range of phones that will suit your needs. I know that the nokia 6620, 6600, and the 6680 all have the memory to load the talks soft wear on. These phones you can also get on pay as you go. At the moment in the vodafone stores the noika 6680 is on sale, for the bargan price of £250, which is actually quite good. There is no extra price for the talks as it's to do with equal rights and stuff. which is brilliant. So, i hope this helps.
Good luck!

Someone showed me what Talks can do. He paid $200 for it. And if I can remember, he said it works with Cingular phones.

actually, can i correct something here? vodaphone do sell talks on their phones, so do orange. the thing I would like to correct is the assumption that you can get talks in all vodaphone stores in the UK. That's rubbish. only a few know about it, and their customer service is shit. I would recommend going to an independant dealer of talks, I know it costs a bit more initially, but at least you know where you are, and you can upgrade talks when a new version comes out. the independant dealers are often more up to date with their initial installed version. thanks.

Hi there; you can also get talks from: http://www.enablemart.com/productdetail.aspx?store=10&pid=1498&dept=24 It's about $256. The cingular thing, aren't they celling it for $199? Hmmm, not sure. Is there a website where I can hear some demos? I've heard of some where you can download a 30-day trial on your phone, but I only want some samples.

I have 2 phones with Talks ("Talksina" comes from there, it's a nickname meaning "little TALKS girl") :) I have a nokia 6600 and a Nokia 9210I communicator and I love that software. Here it's about 150€ but there is, as all over the world, the license problem.
I mean: for the Communicator I have still the Talks 1.31.9, but for my Nokia6600 I use the 2.01.11 version. The latest one, the 2.5.55, is for Premium licenses but I have standard, and NO ONE told users that there could be a change in serial numbers, so every person who tried to install the 2.5x versions on phones, found that after 10 minutes license expired, even if they paid lots of money for that!
I hope Scansoft will solve this problem, because this can not be possible and encourages piracy!
This is a real scandal
I heard also about another software, it's only in italy I think now I do not remember the name it's for phones running Windows mobile, but it's quite new and I do not know anything about that, but another symbian one is the MobileSpeak from CodeFactory

By the way folks, Talks is compatible with a lot more phones now. I'm currently using Talks 60 on a 7610 which i just went and bought from my local carphone warehouse, sent it off to this place in Wales, UK and I got the phone back about a week or two after we sent it off. I think Talks is very much like JAWS, accept some early versions like mine are not compatible with the internet on Nokia phones, so it's best you upgrade to 2.0. Having said that, Scansoft's probably bought out a newer version of that now. I'm still trying to persuade mum to let me get 2.0. I think it's free if you have an older version of Talks already.

In the states, does anyone know if talks works on a phone using the CDMA network? Like if you're with verizon or sprint? So far I'm only seeing GMS nokia phone that work with it. For syngular or t-moble. Thanks all!

hi, i'm in the u k and talks is the best thing i've got, it makes me look more sighted as i'm able to send texts with it. i have a nokia 6600 and you can get talks if you contact a site called computer room services. the address is www.comproom.co.uk i know the guy as he's installed talks for me on several occations when my memory card broke, he'll have the phone back to you within 2 days.

Hi all,
Talks Series 60 works on any phone running on the Symbian S60 platform, doesn't matter which edition. Mostly Nokias run this, there's a few others too, which can be found at
http://www.symbian.com and then the list of phones. They have to run Symbian S60 or S80 platform and there's about 20 some.
THe cost here in the States from Beyond Sight is now 240 dollars, which is not that bad. S60 and Talks s80 cost the same, and they used to be very dfferent in price--the 80version almost a hundred dollars more tahn teh other.
And talks will really only work on GSM networks: in the states, SUncom, Cingular, and T-mobile. I toucld work with Verizon or Sprint or somethinhg like that but only if you can find a Nokia or some other phone running S60 or 80, which I don't see happening. I've looked everywhere and found no CDMA or the older TDMA that carries phones with Symbian s60 as the platform.
Hope that helps all of you.

Shanda and Adam

The new version of TALKS is practically the same as JAWS. Sounds like JAWS and acts like JAWS. I've still to upgrade my own Nokia 7610 mobile from Talks 60, which only lets you use the phone book, access the menu functions not involving WAP connections and send text messages, very very boring, so I'm desperate for an upgrade.
